The application period for the 2012-2013 school year closed on Friday, February 3rd. With amazing outreach and support from our entire parent community, we received over 200 applications for the incoming kindergarten class. There are enough Mandarin-speaking applicants to fill our kindergarten classes with each class fairly evenly divided between Mandarin- and non-Mandarin-speaking students. On top of that, we received more than a dozen applications for 1st grade and more than a dozen applications for 2nd grade. The next step in the enrollment process will be the public random lottery on March 6th followed by an evening informational open house for all applicants on March 13th.
The enrollment drive would not have been such a great success if it were not for the many parents who took time out of their busy schedules to pass out flyers at local preschools, take part in street festivals and Lunar New Year’s celebrations from Oakland to Albany, bring media attention to the school, help lead school tours, and of course, spread the word by talking about our school to friends, neighbors, and co-workers. These efforts resulted in a packed house for every single one of our nine info sessions — and more applicants than we have space to accept.
As the application process comes to an end, we hope to have your continued support throughout the rest of the enrollment process, and as new families join our wonderful community. You will hear more about events for new and current families in the upcoming months, and we hope you will continue to share your enthusiasm and join us whenever you can.
Huge thanks are due to the co-chairs of our enrollment committee, Kelly Scribner (mom to Avery in the Monkey class) and Dave Cherry (dad to Petra in the Monkey class), along with all the volunteers who are helping throughout this process. We wouldn’t be having such a enrollment season without their dedication and leadership!
