Calendar
The Yu Ming Charter School Academic calendar is available in PDF form:

The Yu Ming Family Calendar is  set up on Google Calendar as a public calendar.  This calendar includes the official school academic year calendar, plus additional events, deadlines, meetings and social happenings throughout the year. By subscribing to the Google calendar  you receive automatic updates within Outlook or on your mobile device as activities and dates are added throughout the year.

School Hours

  • Alcatraz Site (K-4th Grade): 8:15 am – 3:00 pm (Monday through Thursday)
  • Herzog Site (5th and 6th Grade): 8:30 am – 3:15 pm (Monday through Thursday)
  • Early Dismissal Days: Alcatraz ends at 1:00 pm and Herzog at 1:15 pm

Our doors open for drop-off at both sites at 8:00 am.

Carpooling
We have families that come from all over the East Bay. We highly encourage carpooling. To find a carpool, visit the Carpool Page on our secure Parent Portal.

What to Bring
Please pack your child a morning snack, a bottle of water, and—if you have not ordered a hot lunch—their main meal (make sure the school office is informed of any allergies your child has; we do have a nut-free table in the lunchroom). You will also need a backpack that can fit a 12′ x 10′ homework folder. All other school supplies are provided by the school.

Visiting Yu Ming
All visitors to Yu Ming Charter School are required to identify themselves at the front door for entry. When pressing the intercom, please look into the camera and announce who you are and the reason for your visit. Upon entry, please sign-in at the office and wear a visitor badge while on campus.

Uniforms

Yu Ming students wear uniforms to establish a clear focus on academics, increase safety and security on the school campus, decrease differences based on socioeconomics, and increase school pride. The dress code is:

  • White or navy blue button down top or polo with Yu Ming logo
  • Navy blue bottoms (pants. skirts, jumper dresses, woven shorts allowable for hot days)
  • Burgundy sweater, vest, or zip up outerwear with Yu Ming logo*
  • Dark-colored shoes
  • White, cream, burgundy or navy knee highs, ankle socks or tights

*The Yu Ming logo can be embroidered or an iron-on Yu Ming patch. Iron-on Yu Ming logo patches are sometimes available for purchase at the office for $2. Please contact office@yumingschool.org.

Breakfast and Lunch Program

Yu Ming offers a lunch program for all students and a breakfast for students in our before-school care. This program is provided by Revolution Foods and ordered on a monthly basis. View a sample menu.

For the 2013-14 school year, lunches are $4.20 per day, and breakfasts are $2.20. All registrations for lunch will be handled online and payment can either be made by check or by credit card. You can sign up on a month-by-month basis or you will have the opportunity to sign up for the entire school year. All orders are placed by the last week of every month, for the following month (ex: orders for the month of October are placed by the last week of September). At this time, we are unable to accommodate partial-week orders (ex: you may not sign up for lunches 2 days/week).

For families whose child(ren) qualify for free or reduced lunches, please submit your Income Eligibility Form to the school office.

To register for breakfast or lunch, please visit the Lunch Program page on our secure Parent Portal.

Before and Afterschool Programs

Yu Ming provides before school and after school programs for all grades at our Alcatraz site. Our after school program is run in conjunction with YMCA of the Central Bay Area.  Learn more about it on the After School Program page.
