Emilana Ewell

Emilana Untalan Ewell brings seventeen years of experience in education to her role. She began her teaching career as a first-grade teacher at Aspire Public Schools and later with the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD). She worked in different educational roles, including instructional coach and Assistant Principal. From 2016 to 2021, Emilana worked as an administrator with OUSD. During this period, she improved instruction, merged two OUSD elementary schools into one STEAM-focused school, and enhanced school culture. Emilana helped open Yu Ming’s Chestnut campus in West Oakland in 2021. She was the on-site administrator and English teacher for three kindergarten classes. She focused on her family, including her one-year-old, three-year-old, and high school graduate, and worked part-time as an English coach. Emilana has a Bachelor’s degree from Cal State East Bay and a Master’s degree from National University in Education Administration and a Clear Administrative Credential. She spent her childhood in different countries where her mother worked for the State Department. When she’s not dedicated to her educational pursuits, Emilana enjoys quality time with her family, practicing Judo, and dancing.
